Quality Assurance in HVDC and HVDC Light

HVDC > HVDC project process > Quality Assurance

ABB’s Quality Assurance Program together with good technical and project management resources ensures superior HVDC projects.

ABB’s Quality Assurance Program covers all links in the chain of HVDC (including HVDC Light®) project activities, from tendering to customer acceptance of the plant and the support during operation. The Quality system has been certified to the international standard IS0 9001.

The large volume of HVDC orders received by ABB has resulted in the build-up of modern production and testing facilities. The thyristor/IGBT valve and control equipment assembly plant in Ludvika, Sweden has a production capacity, which can meet the world market need.

High voltage and high power testing facilities are conveniently located adjacent to the manufacturing plant in Ludvika. Special DC test equipment and test circuits are available for the highest voltage and current levels. STRI, the Swedish Transmission Research Institute and an ABB High Power Laboratory are also located in Ludvika.

Built-in margins, redundancies and continuous, careful monitoring throughout the entire manufacturing process are essential means to produce reliable components with the lowest possible failure rate, thus ensuring a minimum of lost time due to forced outages.

The large number of awarded HVDC contracts has given our staff unmatched experience of HVDC projects. The Quality system together with good technical and project management resources ensures superior products and compliance with the contract.
