Masthead

• The practical function of the Masthead is to help the user identify the different sections and content.
• The Mastheads also represent a consistent graphic element used to visualize the ABB brand ABB on the Web.
• Attention should be paid to ensure a consistent look and feel of the Mastheads throughout the sections.
• Different guidelines applies to Mastheads for ABB Internet and intranet.

STANDARD SIZE

Width:	614 pixels (special options for ABB Internet)
Height:	100 pixels

The images to be used in a masthead should be carefully selected based on the following:

• Relevance; to the section the masthead will belong to, clarifying the content of the section/page.
• ABB look & feel; when possible the images should include a human aspect.
• Color compliance; if the images are used in conjunction with colored areas, images should have a slight touch of these colors.

• Used as a customized element in the masthead on ABB Internet and intranet
• Recommended for use on pages with content that can be displayed under one common title.
• Will help the users to easily identify the specific content on the different pages.
• If the title expands over 2 lines, the second line should have the longest line length.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Font:	Arial Regular 18 px.
Line space:	20 px.
Background color:	Internet: Light version of section color Intranet: No specification of color
Text color:	Default blue
Placement:	In the Masthead; 10 pixels from left edge, 10 pixels from the bottom.

Optional title

• Used as an optional element in the Masthead on the ABB intranet.
• Will help the users to identify what part of the intranet he or she is at.
• The optional title should be the name of the site or section where the Masthead is located.
• If the title expands over 2 lines, the second line should have the longest line length.
• Should be placed on top of the main title.

Line space:	20 px.

Placement:	10 pixels from left edge, 30 pixels from the bottom.

In addition a special title has been developed for the home page of the ABB intranet; both the global and the country sites.

Size:	43 px.
Kerning:	19 (space between the letters)

Used alone it should be applied centered both in height and width on a one-colored background (the size of the background could vary).

For application of additional text underneath (e.g. ABB Japan intranet):

Font:	Arial CAPS Regular
Size:	7 px.
Kerning:	595
Horizontal scaling:	+18 % = 118 % (18 % increase of the width of the letters)

This text can only be used in addition to the names of the sites. It should be applied centered underneath the name, with a distance of 12 pixels from the bottom of the “i” in inside.

• Section Mastheads have been developed for the different sections.
• The Mastheads consist of photographic images and different sized areas of the section colors.
• Specific mastheads have been created for applications featured on the ABB Internet.
• Custom masthead or no masthead are options with restricted use.
• The possibility to create new mastheads for the ABB Internet is restricted to Global Web Management

The variations should provide the necessary flexibility. In very special cases other mastheads have been developed, for instance for Industry Portals. However, these cases are exceptions. Inquiries for other mastheads should be made to Global Web Management only when strictly necessary, and kept at a minimum.

• The images used should reflect the section they belong to.
• As no colors have been specified for the different sections, custom colors may be used.
• A naming standard for mastheads on the front page of the intranet, including the country sites has been developed.
• No masthead is an option with restricted use.

To ensure a consistent communication of ABB, a size standard and a naming standard have been developed for the mastheads (the global intranet and the country sites).

Naming standard for intro pages
Name of global intranet: inside.abb.com
Name of country intranets: ex. inside/fi, inside/jp.

Additional text may be added to the name:
Global intranet: The group intranet site
Country intranets: eg. the Finnish intranet site
ABB Japan intranet

Kerning:	17 (space between the letters)
