MS Word and InDesign Product Document Templates

The templates are provided in two versions, for MS Word and Adobe Indesign. The Generic template is with space for picture on the cover page and the table of contents on second page. The Specific template is with table of contents on the first page. Formatting and layout for inside pages are similar for both Generic- and Specific template.

Style Guide - Technical documents

1. Introduction
    The templates are intended to harmonize the visual impression of ABB documentation throughout the organization. Common Look & Feel. The templates provide help for editors to adopt the Visual Identity guidelines.
2 . Language
    ABB have adopted U.S. English as the corporate language.
3. Front Cover
    The document shall be given a document number according to the corporate standard 9ADA11. Document title to be named according to the product or order the document is related to. Sub-headline to be named as description of the content in the document.
4. Font
    ABB's corporate typeface is Helvetica Neue, this may be replaced by Arial which looks very similar.

      Document title/headline: Helvetica Neue 75 Bold 24 pt. Arial Bold 24 pt. 100% Black

    4.2 Inside pages
      Heading 1: Helvetica Neue 75 Bold 12 pt. Arial Bold 12 pt. 100% Black

    4.3 Header

      Copyright text: Helvetica Neue 45 Light 8 pt. Arial Regular 8 pt. 100% Black
5. Logotype
    ABB's logotype comes in two versions, normal or bold. The normal version should be used and can be in either red or black color. The height of the logotype should be 12 mm on both the front and last page. If colored logo the color should be Pantone 032.
6. Numbering System
    The number system starts with number without a decimal, and for sub numbering with a dot as separator.

7. Formatting - Layout
    7.1 Margins
      Top margin = 7 mm.
      Left margin = 20 mm.
      Right margin = 20 mm.
      Bottom margin = 32,5 mm.
    7.2 Front Cover
      When version with image on the cover page is selected template ensure the image is representative for the product or service. Avoid using clip-art or none representative images. The text starts from the left margin.
    7.3 Table of contents
      The table of contents differ between MS Word version and Adobe Indesign version. In Adobe Indesign the table is created with Indesign table tool. Every second row is filled with 10% Black, defined in the color palette. In MS Word the standard table of contents with dots between text and page number is selected, no extra colors used.
    7.4 Header inside pages
      The first page without any page number. Page numbering to start at first page after table of contents and to be place in the header showing the specific page number out of total number of pages. Example: 15/100
    7.5 Inside pages
      The page layout is based on stand alone pages. Reason is to have the possibility to single side print and double side print.
      Layout:
      Heading 1, from left margin
      Heading 2-4, from left margin indented 10 mm
      Body text, from left margin indented 30 mm
      Table, pictures from left margin indented 30 mm
    7.6 Images and illustrations
      The image/illustration should not be wider than the body text area. For document to be professionally printed the resolution should be at least 300 dpi, for document to be printed on conventional office printer the resolution of 200 dpi is sufficient.
    7.7 Tables
      The table should not be wider than the body text area. For Adobe InDesign the tables is created with InDesign table tool. For MS Word the table is created via menu 'table->insert->table', when the table is created the first row is colored 60% grey for the headline text.
