Focus on FACTS

Following the New York blackout on August 14, 2003, as well as outages in major European cities, utility companies have been struggling to find fast and effective ways of increasing the stability and capacity of their electrical grids. FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) are technologies that promise to do just that.
