Reliable power supply to help industrial development of Liaoning province
In the northeastern part of China, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) will build a new HVDC link that will transmit 3,000 MW over 920 kilometers from Hulunbeir, in Inner Mongolia, to Shenyang in the province of Liaoning.
The new DC power transmission link will run in parallel to an existing alternating current (AC) link, thus creating a hybrid transmission corridor with a higher capacity and greater reliability. The proportion of power lost as heat into the atmosphere will also decline as DC links have smaller losses than AC over long distances.

For this link, ABB will provide key components for the converter stations at each end of the link as well as measuring equipment for the converter stations.

The link is scheduled for commercial operation in December 2009.

Main data
Commissioning year: 2009
Power rating: 3 000 MW
AC voltage:525kV (both sides)
DC voltage:±500 kV
Length of overhead DC line:920 km
Main reason for choosing HVDC:Long distance
