History:
In the mid 90's four parties came together to create the FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept) model. The parties were: the PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt), the national institute of natural and engineering sciences in Germany, the automation technology manufacturer, ABB Inc. as one of the driving force behind it, the chemical industry and the PROFIBUS International organization. Since 2001 the Fieldbus Foundation has also taken part in development and support of the FISCO model.
