An Introduction to Optimize IT Active Well Control

OptimizeIT Active Well Control is a facility for stabilizing and optimizing gas-lifted and naturally flowing wells. OptimizeIT Active Well Control prevents flow and pressure surges while maintaining minimal back-pressure and maximum production. For gas-lifted wells it maintains stable production at optimum lift gas rate.

Oil wells with long horizontal wellbores as well as gas lift wells tend to behave erratically under certain operating conditions.

OptimizeIT Active Well Control stabilizes the oil production from the well by active model-based control of the production or injection chokes.

The well is automatically kept at the optimum operating point, at the same time assuring stable flow without slugging. It also eliminates cyclic tubing and casing heading in gas lift wells.

OptimizeIT Active Well Control has been field tested and confirmed fit-for-purpose. The tests validated the well flow stabilization action with the result of increased production. An extensive simulation program confirms the performance of the solution over a wide range of well conditions.

Active Well Control

Available pressure, temperature and flow measurements at the wellhead, downhole, and in the annulus space, are used as input (see concept drawing).

Based on these measurements, the production choke at the wellhead and/or the gas injection choke are automatically and actively adjusted to stabilize the well.
