First ControlIT and OperateIT installation in an open-pit mine
Cottbus, Germany, Aug. 12, 2002 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, has won a contract for the electrical reconstruction of two spreaders and one bucket-wheel excavator from MATRA AG for its Hungarian Visonta lignite mine. The new equipment will increase system availability and safety. Installation of the first spreader began in April and comprises the complete electrical equipment, except for the motors, controlled by four Control
IT controllers and Operate
IT process portals.
Compared to the old system, safety improvements have been made and the electrical availability of the first machine has been raised to around 99%. In addition, the extended functionality of IndustrialIT increases operations and maintenance efficiency.
This is the first time ControlIT controllers and OperateIT process portals have been installed on such equipment. Test operation of the first spreader is scheduled for Aug. 12.
OperateIT was installed on the operation and process display. The four ControlIT Controllers will allow for further upgrades with other Industrial IT-certified products.
"The new ABB IndustrialIT control system enables completely new ways of data processing and data management for MATRA. If the system is extended in the whole mine, it can be the basis for a central control station," said Yves Storch, ABB Product Manager.
