An Introduction to Optimize IT Active Flowline Control

OptimizeIT Active Flowline Control is a facility for control and stabilization of multiphase flow in gathering systems, risers and flowlines. It is the only active control solution for elimination of terrain-induced slugs available in the market. The OptimizeIT Active Flowline Control prevents flow- and pressure surges and smoothes the flow without increasing line back-pressure.

Unique Model-based Control Solution
The OptimizeIT Active Flowline Control is a model-based feedback control solution for stabilization of terrain induced slug flow in multiphase flowlines. By removing slug flow, severe process facility upsets are avoided. Thus, process regularity is improved. Installing the OptimizeIT Active Flowline Control is orders of magnitude less expensive than installing slug catchers. The OptimizeIT Active Flowline Control is extensively field-tested and confirmed fit-for-purpose. The tests validated the flowline stabilization action with the result of increased production. An extensive simulation program confirms the performance of the solution over a wide range of flowline conditions.

The concept drawing shows structure of the slug controller in the most general form, where it utilizes pressure and temperature measurements at the inlet and outlet of the flowline to adjust the flowline choke valve.
