Västerås, Sweden - ABB has won two orders for the supply of electrical equipment and brake systems for mine hoists to Tangkou Coal Mine, Zibo Mining (Group) Corporation Ltd. and Lian Bao Shi Coal Mine, Feicheng Mining (Group) Corporation Ltd. in China.
ABB’s delivery to Tangkou Coal Mine comprises the complete electrical equipment as well as advanced hydraulically controlled disc brake systems for their two production hoists. In addition, the delivery includes the drive systems for DC motors as well as control systems based on the ABB IndustrialIT platform.
ABB will also supply a similar brake system to Lian Bao Shi Coal Mine. The delivery time for the Tangkou order is February 2003 and for the Lian Bao Shi Coal Mine order March 2003.
Last year, ABB received an order for the supply of a brake system for the Tangkou service hoist and in 1988 an order that included both electrical equipment and the brake system for Tangkou’s sister mine, Daizhuang Coal Mine. The brake system order from Lian Bao Shi Coal Mine is the first one to have been received from Feicheng, but the ninth separate brake system to be supplied by ABB to the Chinese mining industry.
ABB’s state-of-the-art technology for mine hoist brake systems is well known throughout the global mining industry. With "controlled retardation", the braking force is controlled to obtain the same retardation in all operating situations (direction, speed, load and friction). The system includes battery backup to provide correct operation also during a power failure. In the event of a battery failure, the hoist will stop at a safe retardation rate. (End)
