Holcim and ABB to update and expand cement plant
in Ras El Ma, Fès, Morocco
Baden, Switzerland December 13th , 2002– ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has been awarded a contract by Holcim (Maroc) S.A. to expand and modernize their cement plant in Ras El Ma, Morocco using Industrial
IT products and solutions.
The modernization project comprises engineering, installation and commissioning of the control system and solutions. OperateIT Process Portal and ControlIT AC 800M controllers interface with 4050 I/O channels via Profibus.
The cement grinding and packing plant for the second mill was contracted between Holcim (Maroc) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. Japan, with ABB as the subsupplier. ABB will deliver the control equipment including ControlIT controllers handling about 3100 I/O signals and OperateIT Process Portal as operator interface. In addition, field equipment, instrumentation, transformers, medium and low voltage switchgear, motors, drives and the lighting installation are part of the supply. Customer training and installation supervision completes ABB’s part of this project.
Delivery and commissioning for both installations will be in 2003.
The cement plant in Ras El Ma is part of Holcim (Maroc), a domestic group with an outstanding performance in the Moroccan cement industry. Holcim (Maroc) is continuously investing in modernizations of their existing plants as well as new production facilities.
