ITALY
Co-generation for paper plant
A range of equipment, including substations for connection to the grid, worth around EUR 8 million, is to be supplied by ABB for a new cogeneration combined cycle plant serving Italian paper manufacturing company, Cartiere del Garda. The plant is expected to achieve an 86 per cent efficiency when it comes into service in the summer of 2008.
MOLDOVA
Advanced management for national network
ABB is to supply a state-of-the-art SCADA/EMS network management system for monitoring and control of the Moldovian national power grid. The US$15 million turnkey project will include remote data acquisition, telecommunications and metering systems. The project for Modelectrica will be completed in late 2009.
GERMANY
High efficiency coal-fired power station
The entire electrical and automation package for the first coal-fired power station to be built in Germany in 11 years will be supplied by ABB. The company’s Boilermax system will optimise start-up and shut-down procedures. Together with the sophisticated Modakond control process this will help achieve a net efficiency of 45 per cent, making it the most efficient plant of its type in the country.
VENEZUELA
Cross-country power connection for industry
A US$36 million contract to strengthen the power grid connecting hydropower from the south-east of the country with the oil and other industries in the northwest has been won by ABB. The project for CVG Electricificaion del Caroni includes two 800kV substations, ABB’s first, with further additional work involving the construction of connection feeders to connect a 800/230kV power transformer which will be ordered separately.
NORWAY
Boosting power in the central region
Statnett, Norway’s transmission operator, has placed a US$35 million order with ABB for a FACTS (flexible alternating current transmission system) to bring more power to the country’s central region, on what is already a heavily-loaded grid. The contract includes two SVC (static var compensator) units to provide reactive power compensation.
