2012-11-13 - Based in Scandicci, Italy, COSMEC srl specializes in manufacturing foaming machines for the production of polyurethane foam. These foaming machines are used to create a variety of different polyurethanes and are divided into three categories: low pressure, high pressure and spray.
motors for foaming machines
With a growing need to operate in work environments free of harmful emissions, modern molding technologies use high pressure mixing machines that do not require washing with noxious solvents. Nonetheless, particular applications still need low pressure machines. That’s where ABB comes in.
COSMEC chose to exclusively install ABB low voltage motors and inverters in its foaming machines. Varying in size, the motors service the pumps that control the dosing systems, agitators and hydraulic control units. Choosing ABB Motors and Generators as its exclusive supplier for these machines was the result of COSMEC’s desire to standardize all the components related to motorization while ensuring the highest possible level of reliability.
One of the most important functions carried out by the motors is the feedback on the pumps that control the dosing systems, which require a high level of accuracy. ABB inverter-motor systems guarantee flow dosage in both intermittent and continuous use.
Inverters also guarantee significant energy efficiency advantages: COSMEC carried out on-site behavioral surveys of machines under stress, comparing the performance with older machines. The results showed energy savings of up to 70 percent with inverters.
With an established global market presence and an on-going need to ensure increasingly fast response times, COSMEC has proven that its choice of ABB as a component supplier was, and is, a good one.
