ABB to electrically equip the new Swissgrid headquarters

2016-12-14 - Baden, 14, December 2016 - In the spring of 2016 ABB received a $ million order for the production, delivery, installation and commissioning of a comprehensive electrification solution for the new headquarters of Swissgrid in Switzerland.

Swissgrid controls the entire Swiss extra high-voltage transmission grid, which was once operated in eight control areas. Their plan to relocate the Swissgrid headquarters, affects all relevant business areas of Swissgrid and is a major undertaking, which must be achieved on-time and without a hitch. Since one of the core tasks of Swissgrid HQ is to monitor, control and ensure the safety of the entire 6,700-kilometer Swiss extra high-voltage transmission grid, an absolutely safe and reliable power supply must be ensured at their HQ. ABB is ideally positioned with its digitally networked technology to provide such highly reliable power infrastructure and is ready to complete the task.

"For many years now, ABB has successfully operated a center of excellence for safe power supplies for critical applications, including data centers and hospitals," said Tarak Mehta, President of ABB’s Electrification Products division. "Renowned Swiss and international companies are among our valued and longtime customers."

"We have full confidence in the Lenzburg electrification solution,” said Bernd Geissler, Head of System Operations at Swissgrid. “When it comes to the availability of energy supply, we cannot compromise."

The order includes the manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, power supply systems with diesel generators and systems for uninterrupted power supply, including the necessary controls and power supply systems.
