2007 is a harvest year for ABB in Shanghai metro projects. Since the 2010 Shanghai EXPO is approaching, the construction of Shanghai metros is speeding up, which creates great opportunities for ABB. The total order volume of ABB awarded from Shanghai Metro is more than RMB 170 million in relevant bids of 6 projects of Line 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and Line 2 expansion. ABB provides equipments including 14 bays of 110kV GIS, 16 units of 110kV power transformers and 256 sets of 35kV C-GIS.
The successes of ABB in Shanghai Metro rely on extremely close cooperation between CNFES and CNPP JV teams, their unremitting efforts as well as good performance of ABB products. In the beginning of every project, FES sets up capture teams for different metro lines with information sharing and timely internal communication. On account of tight construction schedule of metro projects in 2007 and underground S/S layout, Shanghai Metro expected suppliers to provide design drawing in advance to prepare proper underground S/S space. JVs supported for the preliminary design drawing before contract signed and promptly responded to customers’ requirement. All these created advantage for ABB to secure these orders and led to customers’ great satisfaction in ABB’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Moreover, previous successful cooperation with Shanghai Metro also created substantial fundamental for ABB in metro business. Early in 2001, ABB became a qualified supplier of Shanghai Metro. Different power products portfolio are operated in power supply system from metro line 1 to line 6 and the 1st Maglev as well. After more than 7 years’ operation, ABB’s equipment well proved its safety and reliability and has been praised by metro clients.
ABB 110kV GIS with features of compact design, modular pre-test in workshop, easy transportation and assembly can greatly save time and space for clients and therefore are widely accepted by Shanghai Metro. Besides, less maintenance and reliable operation also reduced the cost of MTTR and maximized operation cost saving. ABB 110kV power transformer adopted global Common Technology with accurate calculation design to ensure low loss, low noise, low temperature rise, high insulation level and extremely strong short circuit withstand capability. ABB transformer has become the first choice of Shanghai Metro. The double busbar design of 35kV C-GIS makes the running of the equipment reliable and flexible. HV components are fully sealed and each functional chamber is isolated independently, which can maximize safety operation with long life time and less maintenance. The switchgear is shipped by panel and assembled at site easily and quickly by plug-in cable sealing system, which makes convenient site work for customers and ensures safety operation. All these aspects ensured ABB to secure the orders.
ABB has become an important partner of Shanghai Metro with its trust on ABB's equipment quality and service. Shanghai Metro also expressed their hope for ABB to participant in future metro projects actively and continuously. With the increasing number of metro lines in Shanghai, the operation condition is getting much more complicated. Since December 2007, Shanghai Metro has entered a new era of ring network operation.
