2009-08-19 - Green complex ready to host company’s largest customer event in Africa themed on increasing energy efficiency and raising industrial productivity.
Johannesburg, South Africa, 19 August 2009 – Construction of ABB South Africa's modern green building at Longmeadow is near completion and about 800 of its employees have now moved. ABB’s phased in move process into the facility began in June and will be completed by year end.
ABB’s R400 million building soil-turning ceremony took place in 2007 and the premises will be inaugurated in November by ABB Group CEO, Joe Hogan.
“ABB decided to move all its Gauteng operations from four sites into one in order to streamline and reduce costs to operate more effectively. As resource-efficient buildings are the future, ABB is leading the way in conserving energy and water. Our new Longmeadow green building serves as an example of our commitment to South Africa and a case study of how ABB's technologies can reduce energy consumption," said Carlos Pone, CEO of ABB South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Longmeadow, an ultra-modern green building, incorporating the latest ABB technology, comprises of ABB in South Africa’s head office, manufacturing and logistics centres. Energy efficiency features at Longmeadow include the collection of rainwater, reuse of water from employee showers, solar power for hot water, high efficiency motors for air-conditioning, an intelligent building automation system and energy efficient lighting.
This venue will be the backdrop to Automation and Power World, ABB’s premier customer event for the African market scheduled for 11 – 12 November 2009. The event is designed to offer presentations and workshops focused on the latest technologies and solutions for utilities and industry to increase energy efficiency and raise productivity.
