ABB photo competition 2005

2005-10-08 - 2005-07-25 - ABB launches its 2005 international photo competition, challenging photographers around the world to highlight the primary benefits of the company’s business activities.

Photographers, professional or amateur, are being asked to exercise their imagination and talents to portray one or more of ABB three main business themes: how the company’s products, systems, solutions and services improve grid reliability, increase industrial productivity and energy savings.

“The last international photo competition we launched, in 2004, had a tremendous response from around the world,” said Fiona McKerrow, head of ABB Group Creative Services. “Many of the pictures were used in a photographic book which was then sold, and the proceeds were used to support financially-strapped engineering students in China.”
This year’s competition has three categories: Power grid reliability; Increased industrial productivity; and Energy savings.

Winning entries in each category will receive $500 and the overall winners in each category will receive $1,000. Photographers’ work will be fully credited.

The entry form, as well as the rules and regulations, can be seen in the right-hand menu on this page.

“We are hoping to receive some very innovative work because the scope is very large,” said McKerrow. “We have a vast array of products, systems, solutions and services which improve the reliability of power grids that supply electricity to homes and offices, schools and hospitals, factories and showrooms; they raise the efficiency and productivity of utility, manufacturing and industrial customers at their installations and factories; and they also save energy, lowering environmental impact in the communities where we operate.”

Entries are encouraged from the public and ABB employees, except those organizing the competition. Participants are allowed one entry each, and can submit up to three images. Entrants must be 18 years or over as of April 1, 2005.

The winning photographs will be used to communicate and promote ABB’s key business themes in printed materials, on ABB Web sites, and in the group’s media library. ABB will have unrestricted use of the images.

All entries must be received by Wednesday October 12, 2005. Winning entries will be announced during October 2005, and results will be published on the competition Web site.

ABB has run similar competitions in 1999, 2000 and 2004. Photographers were invited to interpret themes such as, “Life around ABB,” and “What is Knowledge?” and “ABB’s Business Principles.”
