ABB Expands Measurement Products center in Oklahoma to meet regional and global oil and gas customer demand

2014-10-22 - $14 million Bartlesville site expansion part of ABB’s ongoing investment in its North America Oil and Gas operations

In early 2013, ABB announced that it was expanding its Measurement Products operation in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Scheduled to open in Q4 2014, the $14 million project will double the current size of the facility, adding 100,000 square feet of space for manufacturing and engineering to meet the growing demand for ABB’s oil & gas measurement equipment. The expansion will double the number of people working at the site, adding more than 250 high-tech jobs over the next ten years. This is the site’s third expansion since 2000.

“Our ongoing mission has always been to provide our customers with high quality products, leading edge technologies, and services to help them improve all aspects of their production process; the strength of the oil and gas market has provided our business with a great opportunity for growth in recent years,” said Gayle Lester, General Manager of ABB’s Bartlesville facility. “This operation has access to the very talented workforce in the Bartlesville community, and is strategically located to serve the oil and gas industry in the region, as well as our global customers.”

Located about 50 miles north of Tulsa, ABB’s Bartlesville facility designs, develops and manufactures natural gas and liquids measurement products and analyzers, as well as software applications and system solutions for the global upstream oil and gas market. These products include instruments for electronic flow measurement and gas custody transfer, analyzers and chromatographs that measure gas quality and composition, tank level devices, pressure transmitters, RTUs (remote terminal units), and software to optimize well production.

The facility also houses a full service engineering center that works closely with pipeline, upstream, and midstream customers and shale gas producers to design and deliver total automation solutions for their field and processing operations.

The strength of the oil and gas market in North America, specifically unconventional drilling activity, has increased the demand for this equipment and these services.

“The resurgence of the oil and gas industry in North America has driven the demand for all types of products, solutions and services to help make operations more efficient, productive and safe,” said Kevin Kosisko, Region Division Manager, Process Automation, North America for ABB. “We are seeing many new sites here in the US that need to start up quickly, particularly in the shale gas area, and increased demand from existing operations that need to optimize their production. The Bartlesville site expansion is one of ABB’s numerous investments to increase our ability serve our industry customers in this region.”

Over the years, ABB has increased its investment, and footprint, to serve oil and gas industry customers in North America. It is currently expanding its automation and power technology center in Houston so customers can learn more about how ABB’s full breadth of products, services and systems can help them increase productivity, energy efficiency and maintain safety and reliability at the highest level. ABB’s Houston location already includes more than 500 engineering, operations, project execution, service, sales and marketing professionals that serve its customers in the oil, gas, petrochemical and power industries, many with facilities and headquarters in the area.

ABB also has a major marine service center located on the Houston ship channel that provides maintenance, repairs and other services for propulsion and power systems for all types of marine vessels, including transport tankers, FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading vessels), drill ships, and other vessels used in the oil and gas industry. This center serves all marine operations in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as vessels operating throughout North and South America. It was opened in 2008. Also, in 2013 to serve the growing oil and gas marine market, including OSVs (offshore supply vessels), ABB marine expanded their offering in Houston to provide all levels and types of training for marine customers, as well as comprehensive engineering, retrofits and project management services.

ABB offers the industry’s most comprehensive range of products and services that make the process of obtaining, delivering and using all types of energy more reliable and efficient, from all parts of oil and gas resource development, production and delivery to power grid reliability. Its unique capability to integrate operations and systems, such as offshore platforms, drilling vessels, land-based operations, process and power management systems, help oil and gas customers keep their production online while maintaining the highest levels of efficiency, safety and process reliability.

ABB ( is a global leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people. The company has invested heavily in North America over the past three years, with acquisitions totaling nearly $10 billion. ABB employs around 30,000 throughout the region.
