ABB shares opinions on energy development at Global Energy Interconnection forum

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, participated in the ongoing Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) forum in Beijing and discussed its understanding on the trend of global energy development. ABB also shared its advanced power solutions and applications for smart grid construction at the event, in the wish to help build a more efficient, intelligent, sustainable and green energy structure in China.

Embracing the theme of “Global Energy Interconnection - To Meet the Global Power Demand with Clean and Green Alternatives”, the Global Energy Interconnection forum 2016 is co-hosted by State Grid Corporation of China, International Energy Administration, Edison Electric Institute, and Caring for Climate. The forum aims to gather governments, organizations, research institutions and energy enterprises for discussions and communications to further promote the development of global energy interconnection.

At the forum, ABB shared its opinion on the trend of global energy development as well as its experience in Ultra-high-voltage (UHV), grid interconnection, and energy storage with industry experts and policy-makers. ABB also showcased a number of successful solutions in enabling grid to be more intelligent and with more renewables integrated.

“In the background of global energy structure change, big shifts are also taking place in power grids industry,” Claudio Facchin, President of Power Grids division of ABB Group, said at the forum. “We need to innovate our offerings to meet the new demands in the industry, including multi-directional power flows, need for better power quality, greener grids, interconnections, and asset management. This is also highlighted in ABB’s ‘Next Level’ strategy.”

When addressing the highlights that will drive the power industry forward, Facchin commented that renewables would grow continually along with the need for upgrades to support grid and system stabilization, and development in smart grids would require more integration of distributed generation and grid automation, including asset management. Also, microgrids and fleet grid management are also areas to pay attention to.
