ABB's Pinetops factory recognized by the state of North Carolina

2009-06-15 - Pinetops received two awards for outstanding safety.

"These awards represent pain that was never felt." That was the theme Thursday night in Rocky Mount when the safest companies in eastern North Carolina gathered to be recognized by the North Carolina Department of Labor. Cherie Berry, North Carolina's Commissioner of Labor, was on hand to present the awards. The ABB factory in Pinetops was presented with two awards during the event on June 11, 2009. The first was the Gold Award. This award recognizes companies whose rate of days away from work are better than 50% below the industry average. This was the fourth consecutive year Pinetops received this award. The second award was the Million-Hour Award. Pinetops was recognized for working over one million hours without a lost time accident. There has not been a lost time accident in Pinetops since 2006.

"We are really excited about receiving these awards," said Jon Rennie, Vice President and General Manager of ABB in Pinetops, "Our employees have worked hard to make safety our top priority." On hand to receive the awards were several members of ABB Pinetops' Safety Team.

Pinetops manufactures low and medium voltage instrument transformers for the ANSI market and is part of ABB's Power Products Medium Voltage business unit.
