ABB expands its production facility in Pinetops, North Carolina

2009-11-09 - ABB announces the ground breaking of a major expansion of its manufacturing operation in Pinetops. This facility produces low and medium voltage, dry-type instrument transformers (600 V to 72 kV) for utility and OEM customers worldwide.

This project will expand the production facility by more than 50% to allow for the continued growth of ABB’s instrument transformer business. As the leading provider of low and medium voltage instrument transformers in North America, ABB sees this investment as an important part of its overall strategy to provide the absolute best products and services to the electrical industry.

“We are excited about this project,” says Jon Rennie, Manager of ABB's Distribution Components business in the USA. “The Pinetops facility has a great reputation in the industry for quality and customer service and this expansion will allow us to continue to serve our growing customer base.”

The expanded production capacity will allow ABB to continue to meet increasing customer demand for high quality products like the new hydrophobic cycloaliphatic epoxy (HCEP) medium voltage outdoor instrument transformers. The new layout will also feature an expanded inventory of outdoor products to provide customers with short lead times for emergency and retrofit requests.

With this new expansion and the recent integration of the Kuhlman Electric instrument transformer business, ABB has increased its design, manufacturing, and testing capability for the broadest portfolio of instrument transformers available in North America.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people.
