ABB enhances and expands its product offering for the 615 series ANSI

2018-04-18 - Technology leader adds support for current and voltage sensors and new RED615 and REG615 variants.

ABB today added two new applications to its 615 Relion® relay offering. The added RED615 and REG615 support new applications featuring line differential protection and generator protection, respectively. In addition, new features provide support for low-energy analog inputs, sampled values (IEC61850-9-2E), and support for IEC61850 Ed2.

With the added offering, customers will be able to take full advantage of IEC 61850, better enabling them to realize reduced manufacturing errors, reduced engineering time, streamlined testing, standardized processes, and reduced warranty costs. In addition, customers will have greater flexibility in developing customized solutions inside their relays, such as integrating current and voltage sensors and implementing digital switchgear solutions.

“The 615 series ANSI gives customers all the flexibility that they need to cope with the increased sophistication needed in the electrical grid,” said Richard Lindo, Vice President and General Manager for Electrification Products Distribution Solutions, Control and Protection Products – Distribution Automation. “We want to enable customers to reduce the amount of copper and the complexity of the wiring and implement the next generation of control and protection with digital switchgear and digital substations by taking full advantage of IEC 61850.”

ABB’s continued investment in new development shows its unwavering commitment to providing customers with unique solutions that carry them through the evolution of power distribution systems. Relion® 615 ANSI is the most flexible platform, ideal for medium-voltage systems that incorporate both current and voltage sensors, giving customers the unique advantage to utilize it as a merging unit for concentrating analog signals, voltage, and current digitally.

ABB will be displaying this equipment at IEEE T&D 2018 in Denver, CO at ABB booth #2510. For more information, visit the RED615 and REG615 webpages.
