ABB helps tsunami relief efforts

January 5 - ABB is contributing to relief efforts in Asia following the tsunami catastrophe – both with aid donations and through its expertise in electrictiy grids and other essential infrastructure.

ABB and its employees in many countries are making financial donations and continue to collect food, clothing, bedding and emergency materials for distribution in the worst affected areas.

“We are seeking advice from relief organizations to establish both short and longer-term needs,” said Fred Kindle, ABB CEO. “One of the main issues is how we can best use our expertise, products and local presence to help restore power and rebuild infrastructure.”

ABB managers in the region are assessing how the company can contribute to reconstruction efforts.

No ABB personnel working in the region were killed, although several local employees and people touring the region were injured. There was no damage to any ABB facilities.
