ABB participated in an international conference and exhibition on the ‘Emerging Technologies & Strategies for Energy Management in Railways’ organized by Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers (IREE) recently at New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by the Railway Minister L. P. Yadav, and attended by approximately 1000 railway industry delegates from across the globe. ABB’s stall displayed some of its customized offerings for the industry, and was visited by senior Railway Board officials.

On exhibit were ABB’s FSKII 25kV outdoor breaker with magnetic actuator mechanism, the all-new AC Trac 25kV loco-head breaker, and a special live demo of STATCON for Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation (DRPC). Using an oscilloscope ABB showed on-line, how STATCON can compensate a dynamic lagging current within single cycle, i.e. 20 milliseconds.

At the international conference, P. L. Biswas, AVP - Reactive Power Compensation Solution, presented a technical paper titled ‘Improving power quality and enhancing the life of power equipment in Railway Traction Sub Station’. The exhibition put forth an opportunity to meet with key railway officials and to understand their requirements while gauging future prospects for ABB to continue delivering world-class products to markets around the globe.
