2010-05-28 - Employees in Pinetops, North Carolina raised $47,000 in the fight against cancer
The American Cancer Society has long been a charity near and dear to the hearts of ABB employees in Pinetops, NC. For 14 years, they have been actively involved in Relay for Life, a program which raises money for the American Cancer Society. Through the years, employees have held raffles, bake sales, sold kitchen utensils, and sponsored hot plate dinners to raise money to help battle this deadly disease. During the past six years, these dedicated employees have raised more than $47,000.
In 2010, the Pinetops employees once again partnered with ABB Foundation for the second time. The goal was to raise $5,600 for the annual Relay for Life event, which was held the evening of May 14, 2010 in Tarboro, NC. Forty-seven teams set up booths and tents in the football field of Tarboro High School. The uplifting, family-friendly event included over 1,000 people who walked, camped out in tents, served food, entertained the participants, and gave their time and energy to support this important cause.
At the end of the night, ABB employees presented a check for $16,495 to the Edgecombe County Relay for Life, the most it had ever raised. The employees raised $9,995 and ABB Foundation contributed an additional $6,500. In all, more than $155,000 was raised by the Edgecombe County Relay for Life organization.
The ABB team in Pinetops looks forward to continuing to support this important event and charity. They know that because of organizations like the American Cancer Society, many of their friends, family, and co-workers have been able to enjoy more birthdays and holidays by beating cancer.
