ABB releases VD4 circuit breakers

Latest series features new and enhanced features

ABB has released its latest series of VD4 vacuum circuit-breakers for medium voltage primary distribution with a range of new and enhanced features.
The breakers use vacuum interrupters embedded in resin poles, which makes the circuit-breaker poles particularly sturdy and protects the interrupter against shocks and dielectric strength limitation from accumulated dust and humidity. In addition, the poles are now sealed for life, which makes them particularly resilient in all climatic conditions.
The simplicity of the vacuum interrupter housing for the contacts, with fewer parts and less maintenance, gives the circuit breakers greater reliability and longer life.
Also new is the VD4’s mechanical operating mechanism, with stored energy, free release and anti-pumping device as standard. These features allow the circuit breakers to open and close independently of the operator. The mechanical operating mechanism is not only simple to use, it can be customised with a wide range of accessories that can be quickly and easily installed.
The VD4 comes in two versions. The fixed version has the operating mechanism and poles fixed to a compact metal frame, and is notable for its sturdiness and mechanical reliability. The withdrawable version features a truck for racking it into and out of the switchboard or enclosure with the door closed.
The VD4 also features a built-in spring charging lever, key lock and padlocks and protective covering for the pushbuttons.
All units comply with the IEC 62271-100, CEI 17-1 file 1375 standards and with those of all major industrialised countries.
ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering their environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 133,000 people.
