Ships plug into HV connection
ABB is supplying Holland America Line with its award-winning high voltage shore connections (HVSC) for ships berthed in Seattle. The HVSC enables the vessels to cut fuel costs and virtually eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution during stop-overs at one of the leading ports on the US west coast. For Seattle, it means improved air quality and increased revenues for the city’s publicly owned electric utility.

FACTS for the steel industry
Six orders totalling US$15 million have been awarded to ABB to install flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) at steel plants in China, Oman, Spain, and Turkey. All contracts are based on ABB’s SVC technology which improves the security, capacity and flexibility of power transmission and distribution systems, as well as productivity and power quality in industry.

US$42 million power order in India
ABB has won a US$42 million contract for an integrated network management system from the main electricity transmission company in the Indian state of Karnataka, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). The system integrates supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology with energy management and distribution management systems. These will monitor and control 830 main transmission and distribution substations spread across the state of Karnataka, including the city of Bangalore.

Dry cooling for HVDC station
The Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) is upgrading the control and valve cooling systems of existing ABB HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) system delivered over 20 years ago. A modern ABB dry cooling system will replace the original wet cooling system, eliminating the use of scarce water resources. The upgrade will also extend the lifetime of the converter stations.

Major substation order for the Gulf
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, Kahramaa, has awarded ABB with a US$450 million contract to support the country’s rapid growth by expanding the power transmission system. The contract includes three substations and a telecommunication package for Qatar's Phase VII grid expansion project, a countrywide effort to increase power in areas of high growth, where electricity demand is greatest.
