At the Gala Dinner Party, taking place the last night of the CIMAC Congress in Kyoto, Japan, an announcement from the CIMAC President was made: "The Winner of the 2004 CIMAC President´s Award is - the paper on the Cylmate® System". A very prestigious award in the engine industry and the motivation was: "The award was given on basis of practical contribution to the future success of the engine industry".

The 24th CIMAC Congress took place on June 7 - 11, 2004, in Kyoto, Japan. During the week more than 200 technical papers were presented. The high level technical sessions together with panels of technicians, top managers and users guaranteed the communication to evaluate the impacts on the internal combustion engine industry. The Congress especially focused on the role of engine users.
The papers dealt with diesel engines, gas engines and gas turbines, their components and systems, covering marine, power generation and rail applications. The main topics were Product R&D, Fundamental engineering, User aspects and Environment. The ABB paper “Stroke by stroke measurement of diesel engine performance on board” emphasizes the long-term continuously measured diesel engine performance data and was honoured with this year’s CIMAC President’s Award.
In conjunction with the congress, an exhibition with around 50 exhibitors was arranged. ABB’s Business Unit Force Measurement exhibited the Cylmate® Diesel Engine Performance Monitoring Systems. The message that the Cylmate System is a continuous monitoring system was emphasized in the booth and several potential clients showed great interest.
Back to the Gala Dinner Party: Having more than thousand dressed up delegates standing up applauding the Cylmate System and the people behind it, is really something to remember. Also, through this recognition from the engine industry, it will spread like ripples towards the seven seas to the future benefit for the Cylmate System.
