2008-10-29 - Exhibit includes full scope of Drives, Low Voltage Motors, Low Voltage Controls, Instrumentation & DCS
CHICAGO, October 19, 2008 …ABB Inc. displayed its breath of products and services to professionals throughout the water/wastewater industry at the 81st Annual Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition. The exhibit, held at McCormick Place, is a leading source of information on water and wastewater developments -- and the largest water quality event in North America.
ABB’s 1,500ft2 exhibit was designed to showcase the company’s extensive range of automation solutions for water & wastewater facilities -- and the show was very well attended. The exhibit reflected the importance of the market to ABB and how it is determined to grow its business in North America.
“To booth visitors, ABB presented a seamless solution, which is comprised of the products and services from individual local business units that worked in synergy to create the messaging, both layout, and direct-marketing recruitment efforts that helped drive attendees to the exhibit,” said Brian Hayes, the lead manager to the water industry for the ABB Automation Products Division. Rob Mapleston, who is in charge of marketing for ABB’s Instrumentation unit, and Steven Jones from the Low Voltage Products & Systems business unit, worked with Hayes to get the exhibit coordinated and constructed.
See and Touch!
Visitors to the booth were able to get hands-on experience with a wide range of drives, motors, low voltage controls, instrumentation and DCS solutions, including the following new and unique products:
-- AC500 PLCs successfully implementing a greener global footprint and covering the complete water cycle, from raw-water inlet management or desalination, through separation, cleaning, bio/chemical treatment, and redistribution;
-- AquaProbe 2 insertion electromagnetic flowmeters, designed for clean-water applications, these insertion meters provide a cost-effective alternative to full-bore meters, as well as a convenient way to perform surveys on existing lines and meters;
-- CalMaster 2 suite includes two stand-alone electronic test instruments: the CalMaster 2 verification tool and the CheckMaster validation tool. Eligible meters for testing include ABB MagMaster and AquaMaster flowmeters, as well as AquaProbe insertion flowmeters, whether AC outlet or battery powered;
-- Navigator 600 Phosphate analyzer significantly cuts the cost of phosphate monitoring while improving ease of use. It substantially reduces the amount of reagents and maintenance generally associated with phosphate analysis;
-- SM500F, the world’s first field-mountable videographic data recorder; the SM500F four-channel unit offers localized access to water and wastewater operational data. The SM500F can be easily installed into a panel or on a wall or pipe without the additional expense of costly enclosures;
-- Fully integrated, regenerative AC drives (four-quadrant drives) now have shorter lead times to meet market demand for these drives. The drives have the ability to recover energy from a process and feed it back into the network; and help to maintain power-supply quality, thanks to their superior harmonic performance;
-- Ultra-low harmonic drives, offer users extremely precise motor control – and are ideal for helping end users meet the IEEE-519 standard regarding harmonics. Wall-mount units (7.5 to 125 horsepower range), and cabinet-built configurations (125 to 2,800 Hp) are available in compact in size;
-- Industrial performance and process performance motors meet custom specifications in water and wastewater applications. Low Voltage Motors in comprehensive range of available IEC frame sizes 63-450 (.09 kW – 1,000 kW), NEMA frame sizes 405-588 (50-800 hp); and
-- Entrelec terminal blocks by ABB offer one of the most comprehensive product ranges available; these meet the requirements of customers -- from small panel-builders to large OEMs; from standard distribution and control panels, to the most specialized equipment applications.
ABB Products Ideal for OEMs Exporting Their Machines
“The show provides ABB two sources of new prospects and leads,” noted Hayes. “In addition to the show attendees, many of the OEMs that have exhibits on the floor are real prospects for these exact low-voltage products we display,” he said. “Many of these ABB electrical devices are components on the machines the OEMs manufacture – both for domestic installation, and usage abroad. Because these ABB products meet global standards, they give OEMs a very compelling reason to install them; in doing so, it helps their machines be ready for export and use around the globe.”
The conference was attended by over 30,800 attendees, had more than 1,000 exhibits and covered over 290,000 net square feet of floor space. To learn more about ABB’s water & wastewater solutions visit www.abb.com/water.
