ABB presents digital power system advances at Nor-Shipping 2017

2017-05-26 - ABB is presenting a new electrical power solution for marine vessels at Nor-Shipping on May 30 – June 2 in Oslo, Norway. The solution is part of a range of digital solutions that will feature on ABB’s booth at the event.

The solution will be presented as part of ABB’s Collaborative Operation Workstation, which gives operators a chance to experience how digital technologies can improve reliability, productivity and costs.

Held every two years, Nor-Shipping brings together key players from the entire maritime value chain. The weeklong event provides an essential forum for maritime professionals with an exhibition, conferences and networking to meet, discuss and experience the latest technical advances for their sector.

ABB’s low-voltage marine power solution will be one of the highlights. The system addresses the need for ships with Dynamic Positioning systems to achieve higher levels of reliability and redundancy. It also delivers significant cost savings.

ABB’s marine power system uses Emax 2 circuit breakers, connected using its Ekip Link Ethernet module, as well as traditional wiring, to provide space-efficient redundancy. This unique solution also makes “closed bus tie” operation possible, improving fuel efficiency by 3-5 per cent and improving maintenance costs by up to 30 per cent.

Visitors to ABB’s booth will also see new solutions for hybrid ships and the company’s concept for Shipping 4.0 with details of live projects that are helping operators respond to the changing needs of their industry.
