2009-06-15 - ABB Thailand initiated the technical co-operation agreement with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University ("EE-CU"), which was founded in 1917, is one of the oldest and most respected university in Thailand.
With the objective to provide the technical knowledge, enhance the practical skill of the EE-CU students, ABB Management team agreed to support this initiative proposed by Supol Prukjinda, co-ordinated by Praditpong Suksirithaworngule and Tripob Luangrattanacharoen, Sales Managers, Power Products Division - High Voltage Products. As an overall program, ABB provided EE-CU the lecture courses, plant visit, apprentice program, and ABB product’s contribution for laboratory activities and research purposes in 2009.
Lecture courses

The lecture courses are divided into 3 topics, extended to the fourth year students;
a) Harmonics solutions & case studies for harmonic filtering, semester 2/2008, presented by Tripob Luangrattanacharoen and Dusit Lertsawatwicha, Sales Manager, Power Products Division - High Voltage Products (its part of 2102555 Fundamentals of Power Quality, lectured by Dr. Thavatchai Tayjasanan).
b) IEC 61850 standard for substation automation, semester 2/2008, presented by Amnat Tanprasertkul, Sales Manager, Power Systems Division - Substation Automation & Network Management (its part of 2102463 Electrical Power System Protection, lectured by Dr. Channarong Banmongkol).
c) Harmonics mitigation and case studies, semester 1/2009, presented by Tripob and Dusit (its part of 2102554 Power System Harmonics, lectured by Dr. Thavatchai Tayjasanan.
Apprentice program
There are 11 students (3rd year students from Faculty of Engineering - Electrical) attended this program (generic and specialized program) during March 23 to May 22, 2009. The generic program is the basic understanding of different divisions in ABB, covering the automation and power technologies while the specialized program will provide the apprentice with in depth technical knowledge of that division.
Contribution of ABB drives
From left: Prawit Yangyeanthawon, Automation Products Division - Marketing Support Manager, Charoensan Songsuroj, Channel Partners Sales Manager - Low Voltage Drives & Motors gave 10 units of ABB Drives ACS 150 to Dr. Surapong Suwankawin, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. Those drives will be used to control ABB motors in electrical laboratory.
