ABB Technology Days cast light on tricky topics

2006-06-13 - ABB Limited will be holding a series of Technology Days around the UK, offering all you need to know about some of the more challenging aspects of electrical engineering.

Held throughout the year, each day will tackle four key topics concerning engineers in the industry. Created and hosted by experts from ABB, each Technology Day will take a straightforward approach to unravelling the mysteries of topics such as electrical discrimination and harmonics.

Aimed primarily at M&E engineers, consultants and design contractors in the building services sector, each module will run for around one hour and cover the main issues associated with each key topic.

Some of the topics covered will include:

· Electrical discrimination – explains everything from what discrimination means through to the types of protection devices to use and how to carry out a proper fault and protection study
· An easy guide to harmonics and power quality – ABB will help to increase electrical engineers’ knowledge of how harmonics are generated and how to cope with and reduce their effects
· Section L of the Building Regulations – with new emphasis on the energy saving aspects of variable speed drives in Section L of the Building Regulations, this presentation looks at the ways of optimising payback and achieving a trouble free installation
· Intelligent building controls – this seminar looks specifically at ABB’s EIB intelligent building system and uses real-life examples to show how it can be used to achieve automation and integration of building services
· PLC Applications and Web Technologies in Buildings and Industry – this session will look at PLC applications in buildings and industry and explain why these technologies are required. It also includes an introduction on Internet technologies in the control environment. Items discussed include Modbus over Ethernet and web browser monitoring

The Technology Days will be held on the following dates at:
