ABB’s Safety Execution Center in the US approved by TÜV

ABB in the United States is the most recent Safety Execution Center implementing the TÜV-recognized Functional Safety Management System, further underpinning ABB’s industry leading position for in-country accredited certification

Houston, August 22, 2016 – ABB’s Safety Execution Center (SEC) based in Houston, Texas, has been approved by TÜV as having established a Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) for the delivery and implementation of safety system projects in accordance to international industry standards.

The approval letter from TÜV Süd, based in Munich, Germany, confirms that the baseline FSMS meets in all respects the requirements for the design and engineering of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in accordance with the international safety standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 within the oil, gas and chemicals sector.

Now that approval of the FSMS has met the stringent requirements of TÜV, it will be used in the implementation of ongoing safety-related project and operational solutions within the SEC. Additional audits will be completed to allow full TÜV accredited certification in the near future.

“This is a key milestone in further developing our leading automation and safety system execution capabilities for the benefit of our customers” said Sebastian Trotta, manager of the Houston SEC. “We will continue to expand our dedicated portfolio of added-value services and solutions and provide best-in-class functional safety assurance as demanded by our industry.”

This approval demonstrates ABB’s long term commitment to developing in-country SECs with TÜV certification for FSMS delivery and implementation. The company has more in-country accredited certification than any other supplier in the industry. These centers are located in every region of the world. Eighteen of ABB’s SECs have so far been certified by both TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Sud, as the leading world specialists in the assessment and certification of organizations and products to relevant safety standards.

The program managed by the ABB Safety Lead Competency Center (SLCC) provides a proven methodology for delivering safety systems that meet international standards and best practices, and ensures consistent, flawless execution of these safety related projects all over the world. ABB continues to be at the leading edge of providing functional safety project management, SIL-capable products and systems, process and functional safety consultancy, and operations and maintenance life cycle service support for SIS.
