Global Partner Summit 2016 “Partners in Power"

2016-07-04 - In the middle of June, around 100 guests from over 40 countries around the world assembled in Quartino, Switzerland for our 2016 Global Partner Summit. The event turned out to be a resounding success and it was the most visited partner summit we have had so far.

The summit was held at the Esplanade Hotel Resort and Spa nearby Locarno with partners arriving the evening before to enjoy a drink and some snacks to give them the chance to mingle and catch up on the latest news from friends and colleagues.

The first day of the summit, Wednesday 15th June, saw a packed program. A full agenda of presentations and updates covered the entire spectrum of our power protection business. The opening talk was given by Amina Hamidi, the ABB Power Protection general manager, and the overview and update that she gave was well received by all present. There then followed briefings on strategy, product roadmaps, the progress of our newest technology, business development activities, examples of best practice as well as presentations from a few special guests.

At the end of the first day, the by now well-informed delegates were invited to a gala dinner in the La Belle Epoque restaurant in the Esplanade Hotel where they were able to discuss the day’s events and digest not only all the interesting news of the day but also a very fine dinner. At this occasion, the awards were presented to the awards winning partners for recognizing their extraordinary achievements. This year’s award winners are:

  • Notstromtechnik-Clasen GmbH (Award ”Partner of the Year”)
  • Uninterruptible Power Supplies Ltd (Award “Best Service Partner”)
  • JS Electromec Ltd (Award “Best Start-up Partner”)
  • Multitech LLC (Award “Most challenging project”)
  • Uninterruptible Power Supplies Ltd (Award “Best sales of modular UPS”)
  • Shark Ltd. (Award “Outstanding performance in challenging market conditions”)

The second day of the summit started with three breakout sessions so that delegates could dive deeper into some topics that are very important for our business. In the first session, the delegates were taken on a tour of the ABB UPS factory to give them a behind-the-scenes look at how our products are manufactured. They were able to see our new testing sites, learn how manufacturing efficiency is being improved and experience our connectivity solutions first-hand in an interactive way to get a feel, literally, of how they work.

The second breakout session analyzed various aspects of total cost of ownership. Contributions regarding critical success factors on both sides were discussed and conclusions were drawn. The third session concentrated on customer focus and quality, where delegates were invited to give input as to how we can improve our products, processes, services and way of working with each other. The feedback obtained in this session will prove invaluable for us in improving our business.

The summit officially came to an end around noon, but after lunch, delegates were invited to go on a tour on the lake Lago Maggiore and visit the Islands of Brissago. This trip was well attended and provided not only an opportunity for more networking and discussion but also a chance to take in some of the alpine scenery in the area. On the following day, quite a few delegates took up the offer to spend a half day training in the factory and expand their knowledge of our power protection products in small discussion groups with our experts.

All found the content of the entire event to be both interesting and extremely relevant, especially in bringing over an understanding of where the new products fit into the market. The breakout sessions were highly appreciated and the factory visit was found to be very useful.

We look forward to a similarly successful Global Partner Summit in 2018!
