IRB 360 FlexPicker™ now stronger

2013-05-29 - Throughput capacity is radically improved with the combined speed and payload performance of the IRB 360.

For nearly 15 years, ABB’s IRB 360 FlexPicker has been the leader in state-of-the-art picking and packing technology, offering greater flexibility in the production process compared to hard automation

To extend the usefulness of this proven robot, ABB has increased the IRB 360 FlexPicker’s top payload from 3kg to 8kg. Optimized for both picking and packing applications, the robot is now able to pick up heavier items, handling up to 100 cycles per minute. Its average throughput capacity also is radically improved, thanks to the IRB 360’s combined speed and payload performance.

“The IRB 360 FlexPicker has always been recognized for its speed and payload performance,” said Klas Bengtsson, Product Manager. “This upgrade is an important step in maintaining its leadership role to allow our customers to increase productivity and higher payloads.

The robot’s 1130 mm working range has been optimized for packing and has the smallest footprint of all delta robots handling more than 3kg. Advanced motion control simplifies the frame design, and the tool flange has been re-engineered to accommodate larger grippers. These larger and heavier grippers make the robot ideal for handling flow wrapped products, giving the FlexPicker the ability to pick up as many as 500 products per minute directly from an indexing belt. Finally, a new mounting interface has been added to the robot’s moving plate.

“With these improvements, customers can pack multiple products, and are guaranteed the highest throughputs for flow wrapped products” said Bengtsson. “As a company we are proud to offer our customers this competitive edge.”

The upgrade improves upon the IRB 360 FlexPicker’s other existing advantages, such as a hygienic design for wash down applications, superior tracking performance and integrated control of indexing belts.
