Mining customers learn how their operations can benefit from Digitalization at the 2017 ABB Digital Transformation Summit

2017-08-29 - Earlier this month, ABB hosted its 2017 Asia Pacific Digital Transformation Summit in Brisbane, Australia, which brought together more than 230 industry customers to collaborate and learn about the benefits of digital technology and ABB Ability.

Formerly known as the Enterprise Software Customer Conference, the two day event was targeted to Utility, Mining, Transport and Government customers. Delegates from mining companies as well as representatives of energy, utility and transportation businesses attended the event. In addition to technical sessions, there were numerous hands-on demos and networking opportunities throughout the event.

The program was designed to help customers learn how to meet the demand for digital transformation and attain and keep their leading edge in the digital age. Agenda topic highlights included Cybersecurity, Business Transformation, Digital Disruption and ABB Ability.

A number of ABB’s key mining customers in the region, including BHP, Glencore and Rio Tinto, attended. Several mining industry-specific sessions included a general overview of Mining industry trends and future opportunities, and a comprehensive look at the benefits of integration for mine operations. Two sessions were presented by Martin Knabenhans, ABB’s Head of Global Product Management for Mining and discussed how mining customers can seize the opportunities of digitalization, big data and artificial intelligence, while mitigating risks.

Participants explored the importance of digitalization for the mining, oil and gas, energy and utilities sectors. Specialists from Microsoft, Horizon Power and Snowy Hydro delivered keynote presentations. There was also a cybersecurity keynote given by Frank Bruzzaniti from the Australian Federal Police, who shared the emerging cyber threats to Australia’s critical infrastructure and how to best be prepared.

ABB leaders also took to the stage covering topics including ABB Ability, harnessing the power of digital and ABB’s partnership with Microsoft to support companies with their digital transformation.

“This summit was an excellent opportunity for us to connect with our customers and explore how current and future solutions can take their operations to the next level, and how their processes can benefit from digital technologies,” said Martin Knabenhans, ABB.
