2008-11-25 - ABB has scooped two awards at the Pump Industry Awards 2008, receiving the prestigious “Supplier of the Year Award” for the second year running, as well as seeing its drives and pumps specialist Geoff Brown recognised for his sterling work for the industry.
Backed by the British Pump Manufacturers’ Association (BPMA) and held in Coventry on November 19th, the Supplier of the Year Award recognised ABB as a: “supplier to the pump industry that has demonstrated consistently high levels of technical innovation and developments, environmental awareness, customer service and satisfaction, market penetration and growth.”
“Once again, our total commitment to this industry has been recognised by this prestigious award,” says Steve Ruddell, general manager for ABB’s drives and motors business. “To win this award two years on the run shows just how much we are valued as a supplier by this industry. The penetration of drives into the pump industry is growing rapidly and we have invested heavily in new drive technology for pump applications so that we can continue to give the best support to pump users.”
The evening also underlined the contribution of ABB’s committed staff with the presentation of a Judges’ Special Award for services to the pump industry to Geoff Brown, in recognition of his 40 years dedication to developing and promoting pump and drive technology.
Presenting the award, BPMA’s president, Owen Shevlin of SPP Pumps said: “Geoff’s enthusiasm for his subject areas continues unabated. He remains well known throughout the industry for his willingness to share his accumulated knowledge for the benefit of staff, customers and the wider industry.”
His enthusiasm for his subject matter has seen him achieve the position of chairman of the GAMBICA drives group technical working group and he has helped extend the knowledge of a new generation of engineers by contributing to a number of highly acclaimed guides to aspects of drive engineering.
Says Ruddell: “Geoff’s award recognises that we have the kind of knowledgable and committed people who can really make a difference. This award proves that, as well as being a major supplier to the pump industry, ABB is a source of expertise and advice that is of great benefit to the pump industry as a whole.”
