ABB Full Service® Greenfield partnership for new ABB motors factory

2009-04-24 - ABB’s motors factory in Aleksandrów Lódzki, Poland signed an ABB Full Service® agreement. This Greenfield agreement will further enhance the new state-of-the-art manufacturing site to establish world-class reliability right from the beginning.

The performance-based maintenance partnership agreement is based on the ABB Full Service® Greenfield concept and has been operational since Nov. 1, 2008. Scope of the agreement will cover maintenance of all production equipment in the ABB Motors Factory, which is being built in Aleksandrów Łódzki in Poland.

“The Greenfield concept is uniquely tailored to respond to the specific needs of an investment project addressing the recruitment needs, maintenance system erection, maintenance tools and methodologies and more,” says Jari Kaija, Business Unit Manager, Full Service, ABB Process Automation.

Greenfield projects can actually accelerate the successful ramp-up of a new factory as new leading maintenance practices and the latest tools and methodologies are introduced. “We have sound evidence from the existing Greenfield agreements that Full Service has brought significant and tangible benefits to our customers,” says Jari.

The new factory will manufacture 45,000 standard low-voltage motors per year. The 10,000 m2 plant, a $27 million investment, will be located in Aleksandrów Łódzki within the Special Economic Zone near Łódź. The new investment will create about 160 new workplaces and strengthen ABB’s market position as the world biggest manufacturer of high-quality electrical motors. Designed to ensure highly efficient manufacturing and short delivery times, the plant will maintain high safety and environmental standards when is starts production in the first half of 2009.

This is the second new Full Service agreement with an ABB factory this year. Another Full Service agreement started on Jan. 1 at the ABB Transformer factory in Trapagaran, Spain. The latter is a more traditional “Brownfield” Full Service concept where the focus is on improving the performance of the existing plant by increasing the availability and reliability of all production assets as well as controlling the maintenance costs.

Altogether, there are 16 ABB factories around the world that have outsourced their maintenance and are gaining advantages from ABB Full Service®. These ABB factories are located, besides Poland and Spain, in Brazil, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.
