Swedish shipping company orders Cylmate Systems for LoLo vessels

The Swedish shipping company Transatlantic AB with head office in Skärhamn, situated on Sweden’s west coast, has ordered another Cylmate System for one of its LoLo vessels named M/S Sandön.

M/S Sandön is the second in a series of four LoLo vessels designed especially for transports in the forestry and steel industry. The new LoLo vessels (Lift on - Lift Off) vessels can transport a range of different products as a result of their flexible cargo space, container capacity and onboard cranes. With the Cylmate System Transatlantic will be able to optimize the diesel engine performance as well as reducing the fuel consumption considerably.

In January 2005, the Swedish shipping company had the dry cargo vessel M/S Sandön delivered from the Mawei Shipyard in Fuzhou, China. This is the second LoLo vessel delivery, the sister vessel M/S Nordön being the first in September 2002.
The special designed dry cargo vessels M/S Nordön and M/S Sandön are bigger, have better design and equipment as well as higher cruising speed compared to previous tonnage. The open hatch design (when the hatches have the same width as the holds) means efficient and flexible cargo handling. The middle decks can be attached on two different levels, leading to doubled deck space and increased loading possibilities. Also, the onboard ship cranes are more flexible, have a better capacity and are adjusted to be able to handle bulk loads.

M/S Sandön is equipped with a 6-cylinder 2-stroke engine with type designation MAN B&W Diesel 6S50MC-C. The diesel engine has an effect of 9,480 kW at 136 rpm. Particulars for M/S Sandön: Length o a 142.87 m, beam 22 m, draft 9.37 m, dwt 16,555 mt, total cargo capacity 18,577 m3, container capacity 650 TEUs, of which 250 TEUs on deck.
