2012-06-11 - Robotics and Drive Services (RDS) of Ireland have recently been appointed as ABB Robotics' first official Authorized Value Provider (AVP).
RDS are an established and loyal ABB Systems Integrator who see the new ABB Value Provider Program as an opportunity to help them be successful in a very competitive market. Ken McNevin, joint owner of RDS commented “We aim to make the customer experience an extension of that enjoyed with ABB by offering real value, with personnel trained in all competencies and licensed by ABB”
Alan Spreckley ABB Channel Manager for UK and Ireland stated “When the new Value Provider Program was being developed we looked at our integrator network and decided that RDS were an ideal company to join the programme as they have an in depth knowledge of ABB products, including motors, drives plc’s & low voltage equipment, in addition to robots. Their involvement in our new programme has made them feel like a premium integrator entrusted by ABB, and has brought them even closer”

RDS have successful installations all over Ireland, as well as on the UK mainland, Monaco, France and USA, providing cost effective robotic automation for companies such as Becton Dickenson, PEM, Proctor and Gamble, Pepsico and Abbots. As a company RDS feel that being an ABB Authorized value provider will help promote business, especially with some of the larger corporations who will see RDS as an independent company but with the support and expertise of a multi national organisation behind them. Stephen Nolan added “We understand ABB and know how to sell their added value. We see ABB as a total package and would ultimately like to use all ABB products available in our automated systems. We currently incorporate motors, drives and low voltage products but feel there is potential to utilise PLC’s and HMI’s as well. Our desire is to sell ABB packages”.
Oliver Cafmeyer ABB’s Global Channel Manager recently presented RDS with their AVP plaque at RDS’s Mulingar facility. Cafmeyer commented “I am very excited about RDS joining the programme and feel the bond between ABB and such a loyal integrator is now even stronger. I look forward to seeing them develop and grow over the coming years and increasing their sales of ABB products even further. I have invited RDS to speak at the European value provider conference in Vasteras in June to explain why they thought it was good for their business to become an AVP and I am glad to say they have agreed” In adition to this RDS stated that they felt very positive about expanding their operations into other countries because as an AVP they have the utmost confidence in ABB’s global ability to support them
RDS currently have a workforce of 9 people who are all highly skilled in multiple disciplines and have provided successful solutions in many segment areas including Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices, Plastics, Foundry, Education, Assembly and Machine Tending.
Both Ken and his partner Stephen Nolan have a long and successful association with ABB. Stephen initially worked for Mergon and in 1997 as a project manager purchased the first ABB robot to be sold into Ireland. When ABB began to promote business through in-direct channels Ken and Stephen took the decision to set up their own business offering robotic integration, finally getting their new venture trading in June 2005. Ironically their first sale was to ABB France through Cellier Process Industries, quickly followed by system sales to Pepsi Co. and PEM.
RDS have now installed over 100 ABB robots in a Irish market place that is growing and where total annual sales are currently around 70 robot units.
