2008-05-05 - Power interruptions during a storm are common. The overhead 3 phase distribution lines are usually not disconnected at the same time. This means single phasing and motor failures. ABB’s updated design of the popular DLM series, the DLMU, provides a universal voltage (200 to 480V), cost effective solution to this problem, and many more. Now, one part number can be used in 80% of all phase voltage protection applications. The DLMU can disconnected a motor at risk eliminating the need for expensive removal, rebuilding or replacement. The new DLMH Series provides phase voltage protection for 600 VAC motors.
How much does downtime and lost income cost your business? After a storm strikes can you afford to be without phase loss protection. The DLMU / DLMH series are not only motor protection, they are business loss protection.
The DLMU and DLMH Series are an updated, feature rich replacement for the popular DLM series of three phase motor protectors.
The DLMU is a truly universal motor protection relay. Each unit protects any size 3 phase motor from fractional Hp to 1200 Hp, operating on 208 to 480 VAC.
The DLMUBRAAA is the most popular part number becuase it can be used in over 80% of all motor protection applications. This part number is In Stock and can be obtained through ABB network of authorized distributors throughout the USA and Canada.

Why Do Three Phase Motor’s Need Phase Loss Protection?
Unprotected three phase motor windings can fail, during storms, when the 3 phase power lines are knocked down one phase at a time. Single phased motors (one phase disconnected, two connected) often stall under full load. Within 90 seconds stressed windings can fail. ABB offers low cost protection that constantly monitors the incoming 3 phase power. These electronic watchdogs, disconnect the motor in seconds eliminating the need for repair or replacement when power is restored. They work with overloads to provide better motor protection. The motor must be connected and re-connected for motor overloads to become active. The voltage monitor will not allow the motor to start when a phase loss fault is present. This eliminates unnecessary stress and prolongs motor life.
