2009-10-16 - The new, programmable CM574 Series of serial communication modules allows a single AC500 CPU to communication with multiple devices. When multiple serial communication ports are required, why add extra CPUs and complication to your control designs? Up to four CM574 modules can be added, providing 10 serial communication ports from one CPU. This feature simplifies the design and reduces the cost. Each CM547-RS has two individually configurable RS232/485 ports with a dedicated co-processor.
The ABB Programmable logic controller team is please to announce the release of the programmable CM574-RS and dedicated CM574-RCOM serial communication modules. These modules provide a cost efficient solution for adding serial communication capabilities to a host AC500 CPU.
CM574-RS: Programmable communication module
CM574-RS Programmable communication module has two individually configurable RS232/485 serial interfaces with a dedicated programmable co-processor (identical to CPU PM571) with the following functionality:
- 2x RS232/485 independently configurable serial interfaces
- 2x 9 pole removable spring clamp connectors
- Same connection pin-out of CPU serial interfaces
- Programmable interface with co-processor
- Modbus and CS31 do not require any programming
- Protocols available CS31 Master, Modbus RTU (M/S), ASCII, free protocol
- Free-programmable internal co-processor
CM574-RCOM: Communication module with RCOM protocol
The CM574-RCOM communication module is based on the CM574-RS module but is not programmable. It contains a dedicated RCOM protocol application for remote communication on the proprietary ABB RCOM protocol. The CM574-RCOM is equipped with 2 serial interfaces: RCOM protocol communication and Console.
Can be connected as either RS-232 or RS-485 with the following functionality:
- 2x RS232/485 serial interfaces COM1 and COM2
- 2x 9 pole removable spring clamp connectors
- Same connection pin-out of CPU serial interfaces
- COM1: RCOM / RCOM+ protocol on RS232/485
- COM2: console on RS232/485
- Configurable as RCOM master or RCOM slave.
- Up to 254 RCOM slaves are possible in a network
- The RCOM modem interface is EIA RS-232, EIA RS-485 is available
