2017-03-16 - ABB CUSTOMER WORLD, HOUSTON, TEXAS, MARCH 16, 2017 - The Jokab Safety Sentry family of safety relays, new from ABB, simplify troubleshooting and resetting to reduce downtime, are universal for all common applications to reduce stock and are easily wired and configured to save installation time.
Among the features of the Jokab Safety Sentry family of safety relays that enable continuous operations are three-color LEDs that convey a wider variety of status messages to simplify troubleshooting, while models with seven-segment digital displays include preset configurations and extensive fault information. Other features include timer functions with accuracy better than one percent to minimize downtime, and a multi-reset function in which up to ten Sentry safety relays may be reset with a single button.
The Jokab Safety Sentry family of 15 models includes universal models that reduce stock levels by providing a single safety relay for all common relay applications. Other models are multi voltage, which provides the flexibility to also reduce stock. The compact size also occupies less space: all models are only 0.8858 inch (22.5 millimeters) wide, even with four NO + one NC output.
In addition to reducing downtime and stock levels, the Jokab Safety Sentry family is also easily wired and installed. For example, detachable terminal blocks reduce the time to connect or replace them. Other features include a switch for easy selection of manual or automatic reset and powerful outputs that require no intermediary contactor, which simplifies installation.
“With the Jokab Safety Sentry family, ABB introduced a line of powerful safety relays for all common types of applications,” said Darrell L. Burkeen, product marketing engineer for ABB Jokab Safety Products. “In addition to their advanced technology and nearly universal applicability, we have designed a line of safety relays that are easy to install, use and maintain. They are also flexible and easily expandable to respond to safety needs as they change.”
The technology used to provide the features of the Jokab Safety Sentry family facilitate reaching the required safety level when monitoring such devices as emergency stop buttons, door switches, and light guards, among others. Sentry expansion modules also enable an easy increase in safety outputs of a safety control module when adding more machinery.
The Jokab Safety Sentry family includes extensive features that further ensure reduced downtime, stock and installation time:
Timer functions that are available include On/Off-delay, time bypass and time reset. On/Off delay postpones activation/deactivation of safety outputs with a preset time delay for such functions as Category one stops. Time bypass activates safety outputs for maximum predefined times when safety inputs are closed, such as with inching. Time reset activates safety outputs for a maximum predefined time when the safety inputs are opened, such as with pre-set. Accuracy of better than 1 percent in setting precise times fosters greater safety and reduced downtime.
New ABB Jokab Safety Sentry relays reduce downtime, stock, installation time
The multi-reset function will reset up to ten Sentry safety relays with just one reset light button. The light button will light “On” when at least one of the safety circuits is open; it will “Flash” when a reset is necessary; and it will be “Off” when all safety circuits are closed.
Configurable models with a display offer a choice between preset and custom configurations that can be password protected. The display indicates internal, input/output, system or function faults, as well as a log of the last ten errors.
To prevent mistakes, the switch to select reset function will not change the reset function when the system is operating. All models are available with automatic reset function, and some also offer manual reset by switch or configuration.
