Mike Heyes (47), based in ABB's Daresbury office, Warrington, will be celebrating 30 years service by walking the length of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
Calling his trip “a bit of a walk”, Mike has made plans to set off in July 2007 for the 6 week expedition along the Pyrenean Haute Route. The route, which is a challenging 800 km, stays close to the main ridge of the Pyrenees. During his trip, Mike will pass through wild and remote country and will experience the amazing variety and beauty of the Pyrenean mountain range.
Mike say’s “30 years service is a very special milestone and I want to celebrate it by doing something very special. The trip involves two key themes for me: having an adventure, giving something back and I will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support though classic sponsorship and the auction of donated items.”
Neil Blackhall, General Manager of ABB's engineering services business says:
"ABB in the UK have a long tradition of fund raising for Macmillan and I am delighted to support Mike's initiative on this expedition. I know that Mike, who is a Senior Consultant in our Validation business, has just completed 30 years' service with ABB and this is a great way to celebrate that milestone. He also qualified as International Mountain Leader in 2001 and is passionate about mountaineering . It is rewarding to see his experience and passion being used in such a positive way. I feel it highlights that the key principles ABB use to drive its business (Responsibility, Respect and Determination) are actually equally appropriate in the wider world outside work. - We all wish him good luck with his challenge."
