ABB wins $15 million power equipment order in China

2004-03-22 - High-tech breakers and switchgear for Asia’s largest coal-fired power plant

Zurich, Switzerland, March 22, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today it has won a contract worth $15 million to deliver gas-insulated switchgear and three generator circuit-breakers to a coal-fired power plant in China.

“This order confirms ABB’s reputation in China as the number one supplier of high-tech and high quality power products,” said Peter Smits, head of ABB’s Power Technologies division.

In its final configuration, the plant in Guangdong province on the South China Sea will be Asia’s largest coal-fired power station. The province currently suffers from power outages, and ABB’s gas-insulated switchgear and generator circuit-breakers will help ensure reliable power supply.

The contract includes delivery, installation, and commissioning of 500 kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear, and three large generator HEC 7 circuit-breakers. ABB must complete the order in eight months.
