2011-12-15 - Discover how ABB looks after the life span of the medium voltage products, including our heritage brands. Learn about the lyfe-cycle stages, when do they happen and how ABB can support each stage.
Four stages define life-cycle policy for all ABB medium voltage products:
ABB will not remove any active product from sale until an equivalent replacement to that product is available. Exceptions to this may occur if components or technologies needed are no longer available to ABB.
Once a product has been removed from active sale it is in the “Restricted” phase. A restricted product will be phased out 12 months prior to any “Manufacturing End” declaration. ABB will announce the phase-out and a “Last Buy” opportunity 9 months after the announcement.
Once a product has been phased out, it will move into the “Legacy” phase. It is ABB’s intention to provide support for as long as there are significant customer needs after the “Manufacturing End” through field service, repair and by making replacement spares available.
Products will continue to be supported by ABB for at least 10 years from the start of the Legacy phase, although exceptions to this may occur if components or technologies needed are no longer available to ABB.
