ABB’s Relay Days 2016 attracts over 200 T&D customers from across Central America and the Caribbean

2016-08-15 - Throughout July, ABB Grid Automation Products have successfully brought together customers from across the Central American and the Caribbean energy sector for its Relay Days 2016 series of seminars.

The series of events brought together 200 customers from the power generation, transmission and distribution sector at locations in Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Dominican Republic. Attendees gained an insight into the latest technology from ABB Grid Automation products with focused discussions surrounding the trends for the future and the increased demand for efficient Grid Automation products in the region.

Led by multiple ABB experts, the audience were engaged with showroom demonstrations and informative presentations covering both transmission and distribution segments. Key highlights included the technical demonstrations of ABB’s flagship products including Relion 670/650, Relion 620, Relion 615, SDM600, RTU500 and SAM600.

“ABB continues to expand the support for our customers in Central America and the Caribbean and the Relay Days 2016 enabled them to get the firsthand experience and know-how that they are searching for from a trusted partner.” said Rafael Pedrucci, HBU Manager – South America. “Our experts were able to highlight the key advancements we’ve made with our Grid Automation Products and to engage in discussions that will build stronger relationships and support the region’s future energy developments.”

The enthusiastic audience included several major companies in the region. Speaking of the event, Rodrigo Pinetta, General Manager at PROA, Guatemala said, “Relay Day 2016 offered a great opportunity for discussions and networking. The high level technical content of the forum was an opportunity for me to learn more about how ABB is pioneering IEC61850 advancements.” Samuel Grant, Protection and Control Manager at the ESPH Co. (hydro power plant and electric company in Costa Rica) added, “I appreciate that the forum also covered one of the hottest topics in the business today - Cyber security. I’m now also interested in learning more about the Relion family version 2.0/2.1 plus SAM600 and the process bus capability.”

The event demonstrated ABB’s leadership in the areas of Cyber Security Management, Digital Substations, Process Bus and System Data Management, covering a broad portfolio of solutions. The team looks forward to strengthening its presence in the region.
