2003-02-11 - i-bus® EIB sets the scene at Esporta’s latest sports centre
Clearview Health and Racquet Club, now part of one of the country’s fastest growing luxury health club chains Esporta, has installed ABB’s i-bus® EIB intelligent control system at the recently built, sports and fitness centre in Brentwood, Essex. With the installation by electrical contractor EEW, internal and external lighting scenes are easily controlled from a small console screen located behind the main reception desk. Simple menu options allow operators to set a variety of internal lighting scenes in the swimming pool area and fully equipped gymnasium, as well as operating the timed settings for external lighting.
General Manager Jonathan Gray at Clearview said: ABB’s i-bus® EIB intelligent control system helps provide a safe and comfortable environment for our 4,000 members. Depending on the time of day, a variety of mood-setting, pre-programmed lighting scenes can be activated from the main reception. Pool lighting is dimmed during the evening by activating the blue, wall-mounted up-lighters, creating a relaxing environment for swimmers. Because the control system is also interfaced with our security and fire alarm systems, it will override existing settings and provide a full lights-on scenario, in the unlikely event of an emergency.
General lighting switching is also achieved for the six indoor tennis courts, changing rooms, soft play children’s area, restaurant, corridors and reception. Timed settings, as used with the high sodium lights for example, efficiently control external lighting for the all-weather outdoor tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, perimeter and car park areas.
About ABB i-bus® EIB
ABB’s low-voltage control system incorporates a single two-wire control cable linking individual system components that trigger or execute programmable commands ensuring complete design flexibility. Individual electronic microprocessor units such as shutter actuators, timers and power supply not only perform several functions independently but also communicate with each other via a single bus. System configuration and commissioning is achieved by connection of a PC at any point of the system via a serial interface, utilising specialist EIB software. Individual electrical circuits are operated by several independent switches (or sensors), without complicated wiring or two-way circuits, and do not require a PC to be permanently connected.
