Zurich, Switzerland, March 13, 1996 - ABB, the international electrical engineering company , has signed two contracts with Omskenergo - the local electrical utility - to supply equipment for the Omsk HPP-3 power plant valued at approximately US$ 100 million in total. The first contract is to supply three gas turbine units and other power equipment for the repowering of Omsk HPP-3, with Power Engineering Corporation (EMC) as the Russian partner. The second contract is to supply instrumentation, control and auxiliary equipment and services.
This repowering project will replace the old existing equipment with modern, efficient and environmentally friendly gas turbines of ABB design. HPP-3 will be repowered under cooperation between ABB and Russian power engineering companies. Gas turbines will be manufactured by ABB Nevsky, St. Petersburg, the largest ABB joint venture in Russia producing industrial and heavy duty gas turbines. Heat recovery boilers will be supplied by Podolsk boiler factory and generators will be produced by Joint Stock company Sila in St. Petersburg, a company in which ABB is also a shareholder. The design and engineering for the whole plant will be done by the Omsk branch of the design institute VNIPIEnergoprom.
The installation of three gas turbines type GT8C, each of 55-megawatt capacity, in the Omsk HPP-3 power plant will achieve a 20 percent fuel saving, reduce NOx emissions by 50 percent and improve the reliability of power and heat supplies to the regions businesses and residents.
The first gas turbine unit is planned to be commissioned in 1997. This project is an important step in establishing cooperation between ABB and the Omsk regional Administration, RAO EES Russia, Omskenergo, EMC, and industrial enterprises of the region, as well as local financial and commercial institutions.
