Hammerfest, Norway, August 14, 2002 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, will deliver
an Operate IT control system for the Statoil LNG Plant, located at Melkeoya Island close to Hammerfest. The three-year contract is worth US$ 7 million to design, manufacture, engineer and configure the safety and automation system for the plant’s receiving terminal.
The order comprises an ABB Operate IT control system to handle the complex control algorithms required for
a land-based processing plant. The sub-sea electrical control system, power management system and fire & gas systems will be updated and expanded as well. The order also includes the seamless integration of safety systems through ABB´s Profibus interface.
ABB’s system architecture is the latest technology available for operators with a broad scope of Fieldbus protocols and environmentally friendly solutions. “ABB Industrial IT combines the most innovative and well suited solutions for modern process industry needs,” said Gunleiv Skofteland, Project Manager for instrumentation and process control systems for Statoil’s Hammerfest LNG plant. “This project is the first of this type performed in the Barents Sea area which will open up the Norwegian continental shelf for further development.”
According to the terms of the contract, the work includes engineering, installation, commissioning, and training. The work starts immediately and will be completed in November 2005.
